Civil War Re-Enactment, Thirlstane Castle, Lauder
I hope this news update finds you well. As traditionally happens during the summer, all thoughts of camera club seem to be far from the front of members' minds. There are so many other things to do at this time of year, and it is why clubs typically have a long summer break.
We have tried to arrange summer outings in the past, but these have been less and less well attended. The exception is the Isle of May trip what has been popular over the last two summers, and was a again a great day out this year.
However, at the end of last season we spoke about a group attending a Civil War Re-Enactment in which our own Lindsay Cameron will be participating. It is a fair drive down to Lauder in the Scottish Borders, but Thirlstane Castle offers a great deal in the way of photographic material, and these re-enactments can be absolutely brilliant for some unique photography - how often do you get so many people in full historic dress dying to have their photos taken??!
Smoking Gun by Ian Bain - always loved this image!
If people remain interested, it would be good if they could let me know at the usual address of bpscomps@gmail.com so we can have an idea of numbers, and try to sort out some car sharing if possible. Alternatively, please comment on the facebook post/chat room post, just so we can gauge if it is still of interest to members.
I think ideally we should aim to go on Sunday 11th. I believe entry will be £9.50 which also allows you to look around the castle (although I'm not sure how free you will be to take photos inside the castle - it's often not permitted at these places.
More information can be found here - http://www.thirlestanecastle.co.uk/events/events-calendar/civil-war-re-enactment-weekend . Lindsay assures me that you can pay on entry rather than pre-booking.
